FAQ

-How does Reiki Work?
Reiki works by channeling energy from the Practitioner to the client to promote relaxation, stress relief, reduce pain levels and provide an overall sense of wellbeing and peace. This can be accomplished by gently placing hands on the client (if the client is comfortable with touch), by being in close proximity to the client (hands hovering above), or through a distance Reiki session remotely.
-
Is Reiki safe?
Reiki is safe and non-invasive, and it can be used on all types of humans and animals, and plants! It can also be infused into items such as candles, lotions, sprays, blankets, and other objects as desired.
-
Is Reiki safe for everyone, including children and pregnant women?
It is a non-invasive complementary therapy that supports conventional medicine or can be used alone but it is not a replacement for traditional medication or treatments. Reiki is easily adapted to most medical conditions and is safe for children, pregnant women, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly.
-
How long does a Reiki session typically last?
A Reiki session for humans can vary in time. Sessions are typically set at 30 min and 60 min. Reiki combined with a coaching session is typically set for 90 minutes to allow for additional coaching time. This includes time before treatment to discuss any concerns or areas of focus, and time after session to go over any insights the practitioner may have to offer. The treatment itself starts with a guided meditation, followed by a period of time of relaxation while the practitioner performs treatment.
-
Is Animal Reiki different from Reiki for humans?
Animal Reiki is similar in nature to human Reiki, although, because animals sense energy differently than humans it must be practiced differently than with humans. While it is not required to have separate Animal Reiki training to use Reiki on an animal, it is highly recommended that you find a practitioner who has experience and training/certification to work with animals for a variety of reasons.
-How many sessions do I need?
The number of sessions you need will depend on your individual needs, goals and condition. Some may only need one or two sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing treatments. Your Practitioner can help you determine the best treatment plan for you.
-
What can I expect during a Reiki session?
During a Reiki session, we discuss health history and work together to come up with goals and priorities. You will receive your session fully clothed and on a massage table. The practitioner may work with light touch on your body and around you. You may feel the energy flow in different ways. It is often described as warm, pulsing, or tingling. It is not uncommon to become so relaxed that you fall asleep during session. Energetic shifts happen with ease which sets the stage for other healing shifts in the body, mind and spirit. The space that is held during your session is loving, non-judgmental, accepting and compassionate. Reiki sessions may bring healing to areas that are unexpected which can cause emotions to come to the surface and be released as part of the healing. The session is closed with a gentle grounding and integrating process.
-
What kind of training and certifications should a Reiki practitioner have?
While training and certification is not required by law to practice Reiki, it is recommended that a practitioner complete Level 2 Reiki training prior to providing Reiki services to the public. Training and certification provides the necessary skills and training needed to properly, safely, and effectively administer Reiki treatment. Level 2 Reiki certification is typically required to obtain business insurance coverage as a Reiki practitioner.
-
Are there any potential side effects or contraindications to consider?
Even though the experiences during a Reiki session are generally positive and profound, some temporary side effects can occur due to shifting energy in the body. These side effects vary by person and can include: a feeling of tiredness, tingling feeling, mood swings/emotions, changes in digestion, lightheadedness, sweating, lucid dreams. Side effects are usually mild and fade in a short time. Drinking plenty of water before and after your treatment will aid your body in adjusting.
-
Can Reiki be combined with other forms of medical or holistic treatment?
The system of reiki works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to support the relief of side effects, reduce pain and promote wellness.
